Monk sugar is also known as “lo han guo” because it is a small round fruit native to southern China. For centuries the Chinese have used it for medicinal purposes and as a substitute for sugar.

Not until recently did scientists find a way to extract the sweetness from the monk fruit to use it as a sugar substitute. Monk fruit sugar is an excellent sugar substitute, especially for cane sugar.

Here are some of the reasons why we like Monk Fruit Sugar:

Monk Fruit Is No Calorie Sweetener

Monk Fruit sugar is a low-calorie sweetener. In other words, when you eat or use Monk fruit sugar, there are no calories in the sugar itself.

Monk Fruit sugar is a good sugar substitute. It is my go-to sugar substitute for all my keto and low-carb sugar needs. I find the Monk fruit sugar works well in most recipes as it does not have an aftertaste.

Monk Fruit Is Very Sweet

Monk fruit sugar is extremely sweet. It is about 100 to 250 times sweeter than regular table sugar. That is why many manufacturers mix Monk fruit sugar with other natural products to reduce the intensity of the sweetness.

I will use a Monk Fruit and Erythritol mix; the mix between these two works very well for me in many of my cooking needs.

Monk Fruit Is Keto And Low Carb Friendly

One of the great things about Monk Fruit sugar is keto and low-carb-friendly. You can use Monk fruit sugar on a keto and low-carb diet.

If a recipe calls for you to add a bit of sugar instead of table sugar, try to add Monk fruit sugar. This works exceptionally well if you are cooking sauces or other things that may require some sugar.

Monk Fruit Sugar Is Safe To Consume

Monk fruit sugar is entirely safe to consume. There is no limit to the amount of Monk fruit sugar you can consume on a low-carb and keto diet.

Is Cane Sugar Keto Friendly?

Cane sugar is not considered keto-friendly. It is a light brown sugar made 100% from sugar cane. Even though it can be viewed as a more natural sugar than white sugar, it is still very similar to white sugar and is used as a natural white sugar substitute.
