Can I Use Real Milk To Substitute Almond Milk?

Post Date – Update:

Some people want to know if they can substitute real milk for almond milk or even almond milk for real milk.

Real dairy milk and unsweetened almond milk can be interchangeable in most recipes, especially recipes for baked goods. The almond milk you are using may have more water than your natural dairy milk, so you may need to account for that in your baking time because the water may evaporate sooner, or the baking might be slower.

Generally speaking, most recipes allow you to use real dairy and almond milk interchangeably.

Real Milk And Almond Milk Are Interchangeable

In most recipes, you can interchangeably use real dairy milk instead of almond milk or almond milk as an alternative to real dairy milk.

If the recipe calls for 1 cup of almond milk, you can use 1 cup of real dairy milk instead. Or, if the recipe called for 1 cup of real dairy milk, you can use 1 cup of almond milk.

Almond milk has more water than whole milk, so the water may evaporate or make your baked goods cook slightly faster. If you are substituting whole milk for almond milk, you may need to cook your baked goods somewhat longer.

Generally, whole dairy milk and almond milk are interchangeable for most recipes. We recommend that if you are going to substitute almond milk for whole milk, you consider using unsweetened almond milk as sweetened almond milk does have added sugar.

Real Milk Is Not Keto Or Low Carb

If you are on the keto or low-carb diet or simply trying to eat healthier, you should be aware that whole milk or real milk has quite a bit of carbohydrate and add natural sugars. Even though it may seem like a healthy alternative to almond milk, it generally is not.

If you are on the keto or low-carb diet, you should not be drinking real dairy milk. Instead, you should be drinking unsweetened almond milk; unsweetened almond milk is low in carbohydrates and sugar and has few calories.

As the name implies, sugar has been added to the sweetened almond milk in the sweetened version of almond milk. Sweetened almond milk has higher carbohydrates and sugar than regular whole milk.

Nutritional Value Almond And Real Milk Compared

Suppose you compare the nutritional value of natural dairy milk versus unsweetened almond milk. In that case, there is quite a difference between them regarding calories, carbohydrates, and sugars.

Below we have compared whole milk with unsweetened almond milk. Both of these nutritional value is based upon only one cup serving.

As you can see from this chart, whole milk is not as healthy as almond milk. Whole milk is higher in calories, higher in carbohydrates, and also higher in sugars. On the other hand, unsweetened almond milk is low in calories, and carbohydrates, and has no natural or other sugars.

Unsweetened almond milk is a much healthier choice for you than whole milk. Unsweetened almond milk is also a plant-based food that is rich in calcium.
