With intermittent fasting, you only eat during a certain number of hours per day and do not eat during the other hours.

The main focus of intermittent fasting is choosing what hours of the day work best for you to eat and which do not. Intermittent fasting requires that you go without food for several hours during the day.

Here are some of the basic intermittent fasting programs:

  • 16/8 Fasting – The 16/8 intermittent fasting approach means that you will fast for 16 hours per day and then eat for only 8 hours. Most people do this because they may skip breakfast and only each lunch and dinner. Most people can stick to this kind of fasting approach.
  • 5/2 fasting – 5/2 Fasting is when you eat regularly for five days a week and then eat for two days out of the week. During the fasting days, you limit yourself to 500 calories per day. An example of this eating would be that you eat regular meals every day of the week except on Monday and Friday. You only eat one small meal on both of those days.

Those are the two basic fasting methods that are recommended for most people. The idea is that you find the one that is right for you and your lifestyle.

But fasting can help you get over your sugar cravings as fasting will help the sugar leave your body so that you should not have so many cravings.

So much of eating sugar can also be emotional eating, so if you are an emotional eater, you may find that you still have cravings, so intermittent fasting should help you with sugar cravings.
