Orange juice is not low in carbs, nor is it low in sugar; the bulk of almost all orange juice brands is that it is made up mainly of carbohydrates and sugars. There is very little protein, sodium, or even fat. No matter what orange juice you try, none are low carb. We have compared five of the most popular brands, and from their nutritional values, we can see they are all similar, and not one is considered a low carbohydrate or a low sugar drink.

Orange Juice And Carbohydrates

Orange juice is not a low-carb drink. If you drink orange juice on your low-carb diet, you quickly see that the carbohydrate you eat adds up.

About 1 Cup Or 8 Ounces Of Orange Juice Has The following:

  • One cup of Orange Juice, or about 8 ounces, has 25 to 27 grams of Carbohydrates.
  • There are about 21 to 24 grams of sugar in 8 ounces of orange juice
  • Only 2 grams of protein
  • 1 gram of fiber in orange juice
  • 110 calories in 8 ounces of orange juice
  • 60 mg of Vitamin C
  • 9.6 mg sodium
  • 496 mg potassium
  • 0 grams of Fat in orange juice

Looking at this, you can see that orange juice has very high carbs, no fat, and quite a bit of sugar. It has no fat, so it will not fill you up on a low-carb or keto diet.

Also, almost all the calories from orange juice come from carbohydrates. There is no fiber or starch in orange juice, so this also means that most of the carbohydrates in orange juice are provided in the form of sugar.

On top of this, some brands of orange juice will add more sugar to the orange juice to sweeten up the juice. Sugar and carb content can be much higher in a case like this.

Pure orange juice does provide some naturally occurring sugar. Only if the orange juice is pure and contains no other sugar additives. But even with pure orange juice, the sugar content is still extremely high.
